How much does a service call cost?
Our diagnostic service call fee is affordable and we tell you the exact amount upfront before we ever come out, so there are no surprises. The fee covers the technician's time to diagnose the problem and give you a clear repair quote. Call (918) 839-3734 for our current service call rate.
Do you offer upfront pricing?
Yes. We give you the repair or installation cost in writing before any work begins. You approve the price first. We don't start a job and surprise you with the bill afterward, and we don't pad estimates with parts you don't need.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, check, and major credit and debit cards. We also offer financing with approved credit through Synchrony for larger repairs and installations.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We offer financing with approved credit through Synchrony, including promotional plans with no interest if paid in full within the promotional period. It's a great option for system replacements and major repairs. Ask us for the application link or visit our financing page.
Why is HVAC repair sometimes expensive?
HVAC systems are complex, and parts like compressors, coils, and control boards aren't cheap. The cost reflects quality parts, skilled labor, and proper diagnosis. The upside of doing it right is a repair that lasts, instead of a cheap patch you pay for again in a month. We always explain what you're paying for.
Will you give me a written quote?
Always. Every repair and installation comes with a clear, written quote before work starts. For installations, we itemize equipment, labor, and any extras so you can see exactly where your money goes.
Do you offer any discounts or specials?
We run seasonal specials and offer financing options to make HVAC work more affordable. Call (918) 839-3734 to ask what's currently available for your project.

AC Repair & Cooling

Why is my AC running but not cooling?
Common causes include a dirty air filter, low refrigerant from a leak, a frozen evaporator coil, a failed capacitor, or a dirty outdoor condenser coil. Some of these are quick fixes, others point to a bigger issue. If your AC is running but blowing warm air, turn it off to avoid further damage and call us to diagnose it.
Why is my AC freezing up or icing over?
Ice on your indoor unit or the copper refrigerant lines usually means restricted airflow (often a clogged filter or blocked return) or low refrigerant. Don't keep running it, as that can damage the compressor, an expensive part. Turn the system off, let it thaw, and call us to find the root cause.
How often should I change my AC filter?
For most homes, every 1 to 3 months. If you have pets, allergies, or run your system hard during Arkansas summers, lean toward monthly. A clogged filter is one of the most common causes of AC problems and is easy to prevent.
Why is my AC making a loud noise?
Different noises mean different things: grinding or squealing can be a failing motor or bearing, buzzing is often electrical, banging or clanking may be a loose or broken part, and rattling can be debris or loose hardware. Unusual noises are worth a diagnostic before a small problem becomes a big one.
How long should an AC unit last?
With proper installation and regular maintenance, a quality central AC or heat pump typically lasts 12 to 15 years. Skipping annual maintenance can cut that lifespan significantly. If your system is in that age range and needing frequent repairs, it may be time to consider replacement.
My AC smells bad when it runs. What's wrong?
A musty smell usually points to mold or mildew in the system or ductwork, often from a clogged condensate drain. A burning smell could be electrical and should be taken seriously. Turn the system off if you smell burning and call us right away.
Why is water leaking from my indoor unit?
The most common cause is a clogged condensate drain line backing up, which can trigger a safety switch that shuts the system down. Other causes include a frozen coil that's thawing or a damaged drain pan. It's worth addressing quickly to avoid water damage.

Heating & Furnace

Why is my furnace blowing cold air?
Check that the thermostat is set to HEAT and the temperature is set above room temp. If the blower runs but the air is cold, the issue may be a failed igniter, flame sensor, or pilot problem on gas furnaces, or a tripped limit. If basic checks don't fix it, call us to diagnose.
Why won't my furnace turn on at all?
Check the thermostat, the furnace power switch (it looks like a regular light switch near the unit), and the breaker. For gas furnaces, confirm the gas valve is open. If all of that is fine and there's still no response, the issue could be the control board, igniter, or a safety lockout that needs professional diagnosis.
Is a strange furnace smell dangerous?
A brief dusty smell when you first run the furnace each season is normal. But a persistent burning, electrical, or rotten-egg smell is not. Rotten egg or sulfur smell can indicate a gas leak. If you smell gas, leave the home and call your gas company and us immediately.
How long does a furnace last?
A well-maintained gas furnace often runs 15 to 20 years. Like any system, regular maintenance extends its life and catches small problems early. If yours is older and the repairs are adding up, we'll give you an honest repair-versus-replace assessment.
What is short cycling and why does it matter?
Short cycling is when your furnace or AC turns on and off rapidly without completing a full cycle. It wastes energy, wears out components, and leaves your home uncomfortable. Causes range from an oversized system to a clogged filter, a bad thermostat, or a failing component. It's worth diagnosing.
Should I be worried about carbon monoxide from my furnace?
A cracked heat exchanger in a gas furnace can leak carbon monoxide, which is dangerous. We check for this during maintenance. Every home with gas appliances should have working CO detectors. If your detector goes off, leave the home and call for help immediately.

Repair vs. Replace

Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?
A good rule of thumb: if your system is over 12 years old, the repair costs more than about 30% of a new system, refrigerant has leaked more than once, or your energy bills keep climbing, replacement is usually the smarter long-term call. We give you an honest assessment based on your specific system, not a default push to sell you a new unit.
How do I know if my system is too old?
Central AC and heat pumps typically last 12 to 15 years; gas furnaces 15 to 20. Beyond those ranges, efficiency drops, parts get harder to find, and major failures become more likely. Age alone isn't the only factor, but combined with frequent repairs it's a strong signal.
Is it worth fixing an old AC unit?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. A one-time repair on a 10-year-old unit that's otherwise healthy is usually worth it. But repeated repairs on a 14-year-old system that uses old refrigerant often means you're funding the next breakdown. We'll do the math with you honestly.
What is R-22 and does it affect my old system?
R-22 (often called Freon) is an older refrigerant that's been phased out of production. If your system uses R-22 and develops a leak, recharging it has become very expensive, which often tips the scales toward replacement with a modern, more efficient system.
Will a new system really lower my energy bills?
Often, yes. Modern high-efficiency systems can use significantly less energy than a worn-out 15-year-old unit, especially during long Arkansas cooling seasons. The monthly savings won't make a new system free, but they meaningfully offset the cost over time.

Maintenance

How often should I service my HVAC system?
We recommend twice a year: a cooling tune-up in spring before the summer heat, and a heating check in fall before winter. Regular maintenance catches small problems early, keeps efficiency up, maintains your warranty, and extends the life of your system.
What's included in an HVAC tune-up?
A thorough tune-up includes inspecting and testing electrical components, checking refrigerant levels, cleaning coils, checking the condensate drain, testing the thermostat, inspecting the heat exchanger on furnaces, lubricating moving parts, and verifying safe, efficient operation. We catch issues before they become breakdowns.
Is HVAC maintenance really worth it?
Yes. Maintenance pays for itself by preventing expensive breakdowns, lowering energy bills, extending equipment life, and keeping manufacturer warranties valid (most require proof of annual maintenance). It's the cheapest insurance you can buy for an expensive system.
Do you offer maintenance plans?
Yes. We offer maintenance plans that cover your seasonal tune-ups and often include perks like priority scheduling and discounts on repairs. Ask us about current plan options and what's included.
Does maintenance keep my warranty valid?
In most cases, yes. Manufacturer warranties typically require documented annual maintenance to stay valid. If you skip maintenance and later have a major failure, the manufacturer may deny the warranty claim. We keep records of the work we do for you.
Can I do any maintenance myself?
Yes. The biggest one is changing your air filter regularly. You can also keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, grass clippings, and debris, and make sure return vents aren't blocked by furniture. Leave refrigerant, electrical, and combustion work to the pros.
🚨

Emergencies

Do you offer 24/7 emergency service?
Yes. Call (918) 839-3734 any time, day or night. During business hours a local dispatcher answers; after hours, the line routes to the on-call technician. You're not stuck leaving a voicemail and hoping for a callback.
What counts as an HVAC emergency?
True emergencies include no AC during dangerous heat (especially with kids, elderly, or pets), no heat during a freeze, electrical burning smells, smoke or sparks, water leaks causing damage, or a system that won't shut off. If you're unsure, call us and we'll help you decide if it can wait.
Do you charge extra for after-hours calls?
We're upfront about this: after-hours, weekend, and holiday calls run at a time-and-a-half labor rate. The diagnostic fee stays the same. We'll tell you the rate before we dispatch, and if your issue can safely wait until business hours, we'll tell you that too.
My AC quit on the hottest day. What do I do?
Check that the thermostat is on COOL and set below room temp, check your filter, and check the outdoor breaker. If those are fine, turn the system off to protect the compressor, move vulnerable people and pets to the coolest part of the house, stay hydrated, and call us.
What should I do while waiting for the technician?
Turn off a system that's running but not working properly to prevent further damage. If you smell burning, shut off the breaker. Open windows and run fans if it's safe, keep vulnerable people comfortable, and take a quick photo of any visible problem to help the tech diagnose faster.

Installation & New Systems

How long does a new HVAC installation take?
Most residential full system replacements are completed in a single day. More complex jobs, new construction, or multi-system installs may take longer. We schedule around you and never leave a job half-finished overnight.
How do I know what size system I need?
Proper sizing requires a real load calculation based on square footage, insulation, window count and orientation, ceiling height, and your home's layout, not just a guess from square footage. Oversized systems short-cycle and waste energy; undersized ones never keep up. We size every install correctly.
What HVAC brands do you install?
We install all major brands and help you choose based on your budget, your home, and equipment availability rather than pushing one label. For mini-splits we install a lot of TCL for their value, but we also install Mitsubishi, Daikin, Carrier, and others.
Do new installations come with a warranty?
Yes. New installations come with a manufacturer parts warranty plus a labor warranty from Clark HVAC. We stand behind the equipment and our workmanship. We'll explain the specific warranty terms for your system before you buy.
Will you haul away my old system?
Yes. Removal and proper disposal of your old equipment is included with every full-system installation. We follow EPA requirements for refrigerant recovery and leave your space clean.
Can you install HVAC in new construction?
Yes. We work with builders, contractors, and homeowners on new construction, including custom homes, barndominiums, shops, and additions. We handle load calculations, ductwork design, rough-in, trim-out, startup, and code-compliant installation. We also offer builder partnership terms for repeat contractors.

Mini-Splits & Ductless

What is a ductless mini-split?
A mini-split is a heating and cooling system that doesn't need ductwork. An outdoor unit connects to one or more indoor air handlers mounted on the wall, each controlling its own zone. They're efficient, quiet, and ideal for spaces without existing ducts.
Where do mini-splits make the most sense?
Shops, barndominiums, garages, mobile homes, home additions, bonus rooms over garages, sunrooms, home offices, and older homes without ductwork. They're also great for spaces your central system can't quite keep comfortable.
Can a mini-split heat my space in winter?
Yes. Modern mini-split heat pumps efficiently heat down to around 5 degrees Fahrenheit, well below typical Fort Smith and Poteau winter lows. Cold-climate models go even lower. For most homes and shops here, a properly sized mini-split handles heating year-round.
How long do mini-splits last?
A well-installed, well-maintained mini-split typically lasts 15 to 20 years, often longer than traditional central AC because it has fewer moving parts and doesn't accumulate duct debris. Annual filter cleaning and a yearly check are key.
Can one outdoor unit run multiple rooms?
Yes. Multi-zone mini-splits pair one outdoor condenser with two or more indoor units, each independently controlled. It's a great solution for conditioning a whole home, shop, or barndominium with room-by-room control.

Indoor Air Quality

How can I improve my home's indoor air quality?
Options include better filtration, air purifiers, UV lights that target mold and bacteria, humidifiers and dehumidifiers, and proper ventilation. The right solution depends on your specific concerns, whether that's allergies, dust, odors, or humidity. We can assess your home and recommend what actually helps.
Why is my house so dusty even with the AC running?
Excess dust often points to a low-quality or clogged filter, leaky ductwork pulling in attic or crawlspace dust, or poor filtration overall. Upgrading your filter and sealing duct leaks usually makes a big difference.
Can HVAC help with allergies?
Yes. Better filtration, regular maintenance, clean ductwork, and air purification can all reduce the allergens circulating in your home. If allergies are a concern, we can recommend filtration and air quality upgrades that target the problem.
Do I need a whole-home humidifier or dehumidifier?
It depends on your comfort and your home. Arkansas River Valley summers are humid, so dehumidification often helps comfort and reduces that clammy feeling. Winters can get dry, where a humidifier helps. We can evaluate your situation and recommend what fits.
🌡️

Thermostats & Efficiency

Should I get a smart thermostat?
For most homes, yes. Smart thermostats let you control your system from your phone, set schedules, and often reduce energy use. We install and set up smart and programmable thermostats and make sure they're compatible with your system.
What temperature should I set my thermostat to?
For efficiency, many people use around 78 degrees in summer and 68 in winter while home, adjusting when away. The best setting balances comfort and cost for your household. Avoid drastic swings, which make the system work harder.
How can I lower my energy bills?
Change filters regularly, keep up with maintenance, seal duct leaks, use a programmable or smart thermostat, keep vents unblocked, and consider upgrading an old, inefficient system. Small habits plus a healthy system add up to real savings during long cooling seasons.
Why are my energy bills suddenly higher?
Sudden increases can come from a dirty filter, low refrigerant, a failing component making the system work harder, duct leaks, or simply an aging system losing efficiency. A maintenance visit can pinpoint the cause.
📐

Ductwork

How do I know if my ductwork has problems?
Signs include uneven temperatures room to room, rooms that never get comfortable, high energy bills, excessive dust, and weak airflow from vents. Leaky, undersized, or crushed ducts can waste a large share of your system's output.
Can you repair or replace ductwork?
Yes. We inspect, seal, repair, modify, and fully replace ductwork for homes and light commercial buildings, including new construction. Good ductwork is essential, even a great system performs poorly with bad ducts.
Does duct sealing really make a difference?
Yes. Leaky ducts can waste a significant portion of your heated and cooled air into attics and crawlspaces. Sealing them improves comfort, lowers bills, and reduces dust. It's one of the higher-value improvements for many homes.
🏢

Commercial & Light Commercial

Do you service commercial HVAC?
Yes. We handle light commercial HVAC for offices, retail, restaurants, churches, daycares, and similar buildings, including rooftop units, split systems, and commercial mini-splits. We also offer priority service for businesses that can't afford downtime.
Can you handle restaurant or walk-in cooler emergencies?
Yes. Commercial refrigeration and cooling failures cost businesses money every hour, so we prioritize them. Call (918) 839-3734 and we'll get a tech moving.
Do you offer service agreements for businesses?
Yes. Commercial maintenance agreements keep your systems running reliably and can include priority response. Property managers with multiple locations can set up coverage across their portfolio. Call us to discuss terms.
