A $12,000 high-efficiency system installed wrong will perform worse than a $6,000 mid-tier system installed right. We see it all the time — homeowners pay for a premium unit, then it short-cycles for 12 years because the previous installer oversized it. Or it runs constantly and never keeps up because someone undersized it. That's why we do real load calculations on every install — square footage, insulation, window count, duct condition, ceiling height, and the actual layout of your home.
We install full system change-outs for homeowners across Fort Smith, Poteau, Pocola, Spiro, and surrounding towns. We also work with builders and contractors on new construction HVAC — custom homes, barndominiums, shops, additions, and small commercial buildings. Every install includes proper sizing, clean workmanship, startup testing, and a warranty that backs the work.
6 Signs It's Time for a New HVAC System
Not every breakdown means you need a new system — but at a certain point, repairs cost more than replacement and you keep pouring money into something that's going to die anyway. Watch for these signs.
System Is 12+ Years Old
HVAC systems typically last 12–15 years. Once you're past that point, efficiency drops sharply and major failures become a "when," not an "if."
Repair Cost > 30% of Replacement
If a repair quote is more than 30% of what a new system would cost, replacement is almost always the smarter call. We'll do the math with you honestly.
Energy Bills Keep Climbing
Same usage, higher bills every year? Old systems lose efficiency over time. A new high-SEER unit can cut cooling costs 20–40% on a hot Arkansas summer.
Refrigerant Leaks Twice or More
One leak is a repair. Two or more usually means the coil is shot. R-22 (old freon) is also getting expensive — at a certain point, replacement wins.
Rooms Never Feel Comfortable
Hot upstairs, cold downstairs, can't hit the thermostat setting? Usually a sizing problem or worn-out equipment that a repair won't actually fix.
Constant Repairs
Three service calls in two years? You're funding someone else's next project. Roll that money into a new system with a 10-year parts warranty instead.
Not sure if it's time to replace? Call (918) 839-3734 for an honest assessment — we'll tell you straight if repair still makes sense.
10-Year Parts + 1-Year Labor on Every Install.
Every HVAC system we install comes with a 10-year manufacturer parts warranty covering compressors, coils, and major components, plus a 1-year labor warranty from Clark HVAC covering installation workmanship. Translation: if something fails because of a defective part or because we didn't install it right, you don't pay to fix it.
We're not a company that disappears after the install. We're local, family-owned, and based in Spiro, OK — when something needs warranty attention, we're the same phone number you called the first time. No transferred warranties, no "sorry, that's the manufacturer's problem now."
What's included on every install: manufacturer registration, proper startup documentation, system commissioning checks, a written invoice with warranty terms, and a walkthrough so you know how to use your new system.
From First Call to System Startup
No surprises, no guessing. Here's exactly what happens when you hire Clark HVAC for a new install.
1. Free On-Site Quote
We visit your home or job site, look at the existing system (or plans, for new construction), and give you written options with upfront pricing.
2. Load Calculation
We size the new system based on real numbers — square footage, insulation, duct condition, sun exposure, layout. Not a guess from your last unit's tonnage.
3. Removal & Disposal
We pull the old equipment, recover refrigerant to EPA standards, and haul it away. You don't have to deal with any of it.
4. Clean Installation
Outdoor unit set level on a proper pad, indoor coil or furnace mounted right, lines brazed clean, drains plumbed, thermostat wired, ductwork sealed.
5. Startup & Testing
Refrigerant charge verified, airflow measured, temperature split checked, electrical readings logged, thermostat programmed, every safety control tested.
6. Final Walkthrough
We show you how to use your new system, set up the app if it's smart, hand you the warranty paperwork, and leave the work area cleaner than we found it.

Why Most HVAC Installs Are Sized Wrong
Walk into 10 random Fort Smith or Poteau homes and you'll find at least 7 HVAC systems that are the wrong size for the house. Sometimes way oversized, sometimes too small. The previous installer just looked at the tonnage of the old unit and matched it — or rounded up "just to be safe." Neither is right.
Oversized systems (most common mistake). An oversized AC cools the air fast but doesn't run long enough to pull out humidity. Your house feels cold AND clammy. The system also short-cycles — turning on and off constantly — which destroys compressors and capacitors years before their time. Your power bill goes up, not down.
Undersized systems. The AC runs all day, never quite hits the thermostat setting, and you blame the equipment when the real problem is sizing. The unit burns out fast because it never gets a break.
The fix: real load calculations. Industry standard is called Manual J — it accounts for square footage, ceiling height, window count and orientation, insulation R-values, ductwork condition, and how the home actually loses or gains heat. We do this on every install, not just on the big jobs. It's the difference between a system that runs perfectly for 15 years and one that limps along until it dies in year 8.
